Tasting Notes for Beer Festival

Sambrook’s Wandle (ABV 3.8%)
A beautiful golden sunshine colour with a clean, fresh sweetness cut through by a delicate lingering bitterness.
Sambrook’s Junction (ABV 4.5%)
Junction is brewed as a traditional English bitter, using only English hop varieties, lots of crystal malt and a touch of roasted barley to give it an inviting auburn colour.
Sambrook’s IPA (ABV 4.2%)
Light Gold in colour, this 4.2% abv ale, has a crisp taste and lasting hoppiness of citrus fruits and pine, with an orange zest aroma.

Hog’s Back – Hog’s Back Bitter (ABV 3.7%)
A light amber session bitter, biscuity flavour with fragrant hops leading to subtle malty citrus fruits with a long, aromatic, hoppy finish with a light malty aftertaste.
Hog’s Back Traditional English Ale (ABV 4.2%)
The brewery’s flagship ale is pale brown, with a hoppy and slightly fruity aroma supported by malt in the taste. A well crafted, bittersweet beer with a long dry finish. A classic Best Bitter.
Hog’s Back Hop Garden Gold (ABV 4.6%)
A malty, pale golden beer with hints of banana and pineapple, with a good balance of aroma and bittering hops giving a long dry finish with a sense of sweetness.
Ascot Ales Alligator Ale (ABV 4.6%)
A Golden Ale with a wonderful hoppy nose from the Cascade Hops. It’s fresh, crisp, true to style with light carbonation and floral hoppy notes. This is a unique and very quaffable ale indeed.
Ascot Ales Anastasia’s Exile Stout (ABV 5.0%)
This stout is packed with chocolate and roasted coffee flavours, with a slight sherry like aroma. Further bittered to balance the sweetness of the malts, the beer has a unique hoppy aroma with orange, pine and resin flavours noticeable. The mouth feel of the beer is further enhanced with a silky smooth finish.
Ascot Ales Posh Pooch (ABV 4.2%)
Ascot’s flagship Bitter pours a rich copper colour with a sweet malt taste and toffee notes. This is perfectly balanced with a mix of Chinook and Cascade hops providing a sharp bitterness, with a strong citrus and tropical fruit aroma and some slight spicy hints.
Ascot Ales Alley Cat Ale (ABV 3.8%)
A light copper ale packed full of flavour. Refreshing and hoppy with Brewers Gold hops giving gorgeous aromas of tropical and lemony fruits. A terrific session ale.
Ascot Ales Penguin Porter (ABV 4.5%)
Beautiful smooth chestnut ale with an initial subtle hoppiness giving way to coffee malt flavour then rich chocolate at the finish.
Brodie’s High Maltage (ABV 3.8%)
Brewed exclusively for this year’s High Voltage Festival, this is a 3.8% all Motueka hop summer beer. This hop gives the beer a very lively and lifted lemon and lime aroma, followed by a background of tropical fruit.
Brodie’s Citra (ABV 3.1%)
This all Citra super low ABV beer is perfect for the Summer. Blast of fresh Mango flavour in every mouthful.
Brodie’s Amarilla (ABV 4.2%)

Maris Otter and Crystal malt in the mash tun. Fuggles and Goldings in the copper and extra Fuggles in the cask. The quintessential English bitter.
Brodie’s London Field’s Pale (ABV 4.0%)
The lightest of English malts and a absolutely massive helping of English Pioneer Hops. Lemon sherbet in a glass!
Crouch Vale Brewery Brewers Gold (ABV 4.0%)
Supreme Champion Beer of Britain at the Great British Beer Festival 2005 AND 2006, this is a pale, refreshing and hoppy beer with gorgeous aromas of tropical fruits.
Crouch Vale Brewery Essex Boys Best Bitter (ABV 3.8%)
Full bodied and malty with hops shining through. A classic session beer.
Darkstar Brewing Co Hophead (ABV 3.8%)
An extremely clean-drinking pale golden ale with a strong floral aroma and elderflower notes from the Cascade hops. This beer is full-bodied and full-flavoured yet gentle enough to make it a favourite session beer.
Darkstar Brewing Co Original (ABV 5.0%)
The brewery’s eponymous former Champion Beer of Britain. A dark, strong and bitter beer that defies classification. It has a complex malt flavour with a hint of burnt flavour from the mixture of Crystal and Chocolate grist.
Darkstar Brewing Co American Pale Ale (ABV 4.7%)
The yeast strain used for the brewing of this American style pale ale is specially imported from the USA, along with Cascade, Centennial and Chinook hops. The low colour Maris Otter malt provides a perfect light colour and dryness to complement the crisp taste and full aroma of the hops. SERIOUSLY FULL OF HOPS!
Fuller’s London Pride (ABV 4.1%)
Known and loved for its distinctive, rounded flavour, London Pride is the award-winning beer for which Fuller’s is most famous. Fuller’s London Pride is an award-winning classic. A rich, smooth and wonderfully balanced beer, its distinctive malty base is complemented by well developed hop character, from adding Target, Challenger and Northdown varieties to the brew.
Fuller’s Seafarers (ABV 3.9%)
Seafarers is brewed to 3.9% abv and is a delicious, thirst quenching ale. The secret of the hugely satisfying, refreshing taste of this light, amber beer is in the blend of finest quality English malt, Admiral hops and the unique Gales yeast. Well developed fruity malt flavours and gentle bitterness sail through to a satisfying hoppy finish.
Fuller’s Chiswick Bitter (ABV 3.5%)
At 3.5% ABV in cask, this brew boasts a refreshing, highly drinkable flavour, flowery and fresh, with very well developed hop characteristics (a mixture of the Northdown and Challenger varieties).
Gadd’s The Ramsgate Brewery – Gadd’s No 3 Premium Pale Ale (ABV 5.0%)
The true taste of East Kent, this pale ale is brewed simply with pale malt and goldings hops grown on Humphrey’s Farm, just down the road from the brewery. It’s fresh, hoppy, clean and bitter.
Gadd’s The Ramsgate Brewery – Gadd’s No 5 Best Bitter (ABV 4.4%)
A traditional Kentish Best bitter – the aroma is toffee malt and fresh green hops, the flavour is malt, hops and red berries with a full body and lingering bitter finish.
Gadd’s The Ramsgate Brewery – Gadd’s No 7 Pale Bitter Ale (ABV 3.8%)
A simple beer brewed with goldings hops for a little bitterness, fuggles hops for flavour and some crystal malt for colour and body. Nice ‘n’ easy, drinks lovely.
Gadd’s The Ramsgate Brewery – Dog Bolter (ABV 5.8%)
This sturdy dark porter is brewed with six different malts for a satisfying, rich, malty body full of roasty, chocolatey flavours all a balanced by a deep and lasting hop bitterness. This one hits the spot like no other.
Ha’Penny Brewing Co – Golden Ale (ABV 5.0% )
Ha’Penny Brewing Co – Ha’penny bitter (ABV 4.5%)
A best bitter, a strong reddish brown colour, nicely malty and well balanced with a combination of East Kent Goldings and Fuggles hops sourced from Kent.
Hopdaemon Golden Braid (ABV 3.7%)
A refreshing golden session bitter, wickedly hopped with East Kent Goldings and Challenger. Citrus hoppy notes with hints of marmalade and a crisp clean finish. Gold Award Winner, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2009. Gold SIBA South East Region 2007.
Hopdaemon Incubus (ABV 4.0%)
A bronze-coloured special bitter brewed with Challenger and Kentish Cascade hops to give a superb aroma and a smooth malty finish. Gold Medal Winner, Kent Beer Festival, 2004. Silver SIBA South East Region 2008.
Hopdaemon Skrimshander (ABV 4.5%)
An aromatic copper-coloured pale ale brewed from the finest malted barley and Kentish hops for a refreshing taste and a fruity finish. Deliciously fruity with spicy citrus hop aromas, Skrimshander goes well with good food and fine friends and has the clean fresh taste and dry hoppy finish of a great Kentish ale. Winner, Kent Beer Festival, 2002.
Twickenham Ales Sundancer (ABV 3.7%)
A crisp and hoppy session bitter. Amber malt provides a pleasant biscuity edge to this pale golden coloured ale. A blend of British and American hops add a wonderfully floral and citrus-like, long dry finish. Silver Medal in the Bitters category at the Great British Beer Festival 2007.
Twickenham Ales Original (ABV 4.2%)
A ruby coloured, malty best bitter. Maris Otter pale malt combined with two kinds of crystal malt, caramalt, and a touch of roasted barley gives this lush, malty ale a reddish brown hue. A light touch with both Pioneer, Mount Hood and Bramling Cross hops allows the rich, full flavour to shine through.
Twickenham Ales Naked Ladies (ABV 4.4%)
Outstanding hoppy beer using Pioneer and Styrian Goldings for full-flavoured satisfaction. Good body and luscious aroma. Inspired by the statues of water nymphs in York House gardens in Twickenham, known locally as the “Naked Ladies”.
Windsor & Eaton Guardsman (ABV 4.2%)
Guardsman Best Bitter is a copper-coloured session strength ale with a tangy taste, smoothed by oak conditioning and a really fresh hop. It is brewed with premium Maris Otter pale malt and a blend of Pilgrim, Styrian Golding and Fuggles hops.
Windsor & Eaton Knight of the Garter (ABV 3.8%)
A straw-coloured Golden Ale (3.8% ABV) easy summer drinking with a distinctive fresh citrus hop aroma. Like Guardsman, it’s brewed with premium Maris Otter pale malt from a traditional floor sweeping. We are using whole leaf hops – English Pilgrim in the copper and a blend in the hopback, including American Amarillo with their gorgeous orangey aroma.
Windsor & Eaton Conqueror Black IPA (ABV 5.0%)
A black IPA, Conqueror is a rich, complex and very distinctive It is brewed with a careful blend of 5 speciality malts along with Summit and Cascade hops to produce an intense combination of roasted flavours balanced with full fresh pine hop aroma.
Wychwood Hobgoblin (ABV 4.5%)
Traditionally brewed to produce a wonderfully well balanced blend of smooth, rich & satisfying flavours from chocolate & crystal malts combined with a crisp, refreshing bitterness from Styrian, Goldings and Fuggles hops.
